Micro Lesson 103: "A Minor" String Skipping Melody

Welcome to... "Micro-Lesson 103"

This Micro Lesson helps players get much better at tracking across string sets by skipping strings.

When alternate picking is applied to any melodic pattern, the student must pay far more attention to how the pick needs to both be held, and how it attacks the string.

Many guitar students make the early playing mistake of thinking that if they just keep practicing the song, melody or lick it will naturally improve. While this doesn't hurt, the reality is that the musical idea can be developed much more quickly by paying very close attention to the pick and the way the picking hand is held to the guitar string.

It is also important to mention that not every guitarist will hold the pick and attack the string in the same manner. So, pay a lot of attention to the picking hand during the development of this melodic phrase. Perfecting right-hand technique will go a long way to helping you speed up the accuracy of string skipping technique. Enjoy!
