Micro Lesson 120: "E Minor" Open String Riff

Welcome to... "Micro-Lesson 120"

This Micro Lesson works through an open string riff in the key of "E Minor."

The riff applies a series of lateral double-stop ideas on the 4th and 3rd strings under an open "B and E" string.

The riff begins in measure one from an "E Power-chord" that is performed in the second position. It uses the typical power-chord shape on the 4th string 2nd fret and the third string 4th fret.

The open strings are the open "B and E." This voicing creates a layout of "E, B, B, E." In measure two the "G Major" chord enters with a voicing of "G, D, B." A "High E" is performed on top of the "B" open string to create a new chord at beat three of "G6." In the third measure the chord harmony is that of "C Major 7th." The voicing is, "C, E, B, E." The final measure covers the sounds of the "Bmadd4" chord.

The riff can be performed either with a flat-pick, or by fingerstyle. Enjoy!
