Micro Lesson 156: "E Minor" Bach-Style Classical Melody

Welcome to... "Micro-Lesson 156"

This Micro Lesson takes a look at an, "E," Minor classical melody in the style of Bach.

The melody is similar to the different Gigue's and Preludes from Bach's works of solo cello.

This melody is in 6/8 time signature. It encompasses two meters. The first half applies a strict eighth-note phrase and pedals off of a low 4th string "B" note at the 9th fret.

In the second half of the melody there's a series of 16th-note phrases starting off each measure. The 16th-note phrase is followed up by an eighth-note idea that works toward resolving the melody into the tonic note of "E" at the end of the passage.

Watch the fingerings closely and take care in targeting the different string crosses. Work slowly at first and memorize the part prior to building the speed of the phrase. Enjoy!
